Our students have been immersed in an exciting exploration of aviation through engaging discussions, hands-on experiments, and exciting field trips. Throughout this learning segment, they have investigated the rich history of flight, the forces of flight, types of aircraft, airplane controls, airport operations, air traffic control, navigation, and more.

This experience has opened a dynamic world of science, innovation, and discovery. Classroom experiments have been filled with energy and creativity, inspiring students to ask questions, test ideas, and think like young engineers and pilots.
The Casper aviation community has generously supported our learning with valuable insights and on-site visits. The segment concluded with our students sharing their Aviation Highlights at a showcase to some 30 family & friends. The tour of the control tower, interviews with a commercial pilot, missonary pilot and individual time on a flight simulator were all great opportunities to bring student learning to life and involve parents!

Stitching Blessings Into Our Community

Recently, Powder River Prep School students had the joy of participating in a special sewing project at our local public library—one that wove together learning, service, and meaningful connection.
Each student was paired with a dedicated helper, creating a space for companionship, encouragement, and shared purpose. Our students took the lead by running the sewing machines themselves, measuring and cutting fabric in preparation, stuffing the pillows, and carefully sewing them closed. Along the way, they learned practical skills like measuring, cutting, and machine sewing—lifelong abilities that build confidence and independence.

By the end of the project, more than 40 handmade pillows were completed and delivered by our students to the local Head Start program, where they will be used by young children during naptime. Seeing our students carry their finished work into the hands of others was a powerful reminder of how service multiplies joy. This project truly doubled the blessing. Our helpers were blessed through companionship and time shared, while our students experienced the joy of using their work to bless other children. Even more, our students gained valuable life skills and a deeper understanding of what it means to serve their community with purpose and care.

We are grateful for opportunities like this and look forward to finding more ways to plug into our community in real and meaningful ways—modeling strong character, learning from others, and seeking to help wherever we can.
🎄 December Update — Powder River Prep
As long as Wyoming weather allowed, our students happily continued their Nature Study, embracing the outdoors and God’s creation even in the colder months.

December truly became the month of giving back at Powder River Prep. Our students collected toys, food, and essential items for children in need and personally delivered them to the Boys & Girls Club of Central Wyoming, helping ensure local students had a brighter Christmas season.

We also had a very special and personal opportunity to serve through Mark’s Mission. One of our teachers, Mrs. McCoy, is involved with this incredible organization, which believes that every child who wants a bike should be able to receive one at Christmas. Watching our students carefully select and wheel out bikes for other children was incredibly moving and a powerful lesson in generosity, empathy, and joy found in giving.
Throughout the month, classrooms were filled with learning about Christmas and the true reason we celebrate — the birth of Jesus. Scripture, discussion, and reflection were woven into daily lessons, reminding students that Christmas is ultimately about love, sacrifice, and hope.
We also hosted our second Student Showcase of the year, welcoming families to campus as students confidently presented what they’ve been learning. These showcases continue to be a meaningful way for students to practice communication skills, reflect on their growth, and invite families into the learning process.

December was a beautiful reminder that education is not just about academics — it’s about shaping hearts, character, and a lifelong love of serving others.
🍁 November Update — Powder River Prep
November was a beautiful month of service, gratitude, and community at Powder River Prep.

Our students had the opportunity to volunteer in the kitchen at Wyoming Rescue Mission, serving others and learning firsthand the importance of giving back. It was a meaningful reminder that gratitude is best expressed through action.
We also celebrated with our Thanksgiving Feast, graciously hosted by our incredible Board of Directors. A special thank you to Sue Morrison, who took the lead in organizing such a memorable gathering for our students and families. The feast was made even more special with help from Consider The Lilies Flower Shop, as Summer joined us to guide students in creating beautiful floral arrangements for the tables.

In true Powder River Prep fashion, the meal reflected our hands-on learning model — including mashed potatoes made from the potatoes our students harvested earlier this fall at Bob Vollman’s Ranch. Seeing that experience come full circle was incredibly special.
This month also brought a meaningful PRP Moms Meetup, where conversations flowed easily and one thing became abundantly clear: there is so much to be thankful for in this community. The relationships, shared values, and support among families continue to be one of the greatest gifts of Powder River Prep.
🍂 October Update — Powder River Prep
All Students
Our school had a wonderful fall visit to Bob Vollman’s Ranch in Glenrock, WY! Students of all ages rolled up their sleeves to help harvest potatoes. They loved learning where their food comes from — and even got to take home some potatoes to share with their families for the winter. We also donated a portion of our harvest to the Wyoming Rescue Mission and plan to use the rest for upcoming classroom cooking projects, including potato soup and mashed potatoes for our Thanksgiving Feast. We even did an art project using potatoes! Mr. Vollman also treated students to a tour of his impressive collection of tractors — a definite highlight of the day! We’re already looking forward to returning in the spring to help plant the next crop.

K–1 Class
Our youngest learners have been busy studying animal classification — discovering the traits that make mammals, reptiles, birds, and more unique! Hands-on projects and creative discussions have brought science to life as they explore God’s amazing creation (also integrating our weekly Nature Study).
Grades 2–5
Our older students have been building strong academic foundations this month, focusing on reading clocks and reading and writing in cursive. We’ve talked about how important these timeless skills are — after all, how can we read Grandma’s letter or our Country’s Founding Documents if we can’t read cursive?

We’re so proud of how hard all our students are working and can’t wait to celebrate their efforts at our upcoming Thanksgiving Feast!
🐝 September Highlight: Bees!
This month we dove deep into the fascinating world of bees. Students learned about bees all month, had a bee specialist come straight to PRP, and then capped it off with an unforgettable field trip to the Bryant Bee Farm in Worland, WY. Students and families alike enjoyed seeing the beekeeping process up close and personal—what a sweet experience!

📖 K–1 Class Update
Our youngest learners are working extensively on phonological awareness and knowledge, setting a strong foundation for future reading success. This important work helps them recognize and understand sound structures, giving them the tools they need to become confident readers.
✏️ Grades 2–5 Class Update
The upper grades have been busy with spelling rules and building individualized math and reading programs tailored to each student’s current skills. It has been inspiring to see their focus and growth as they set the stage for a strong school year.

🌎 Real-World Learning
In just the first month, students have already left the building 11 times to explore and learn through real-world experiences. From science to community-based learning, these opportunities are already shaping a rich and exciting school year. We can’t wait to share more highlights in future newsletters!

First Day of School – A Strong Start!
The first day of school went off without a hitch! 🎉 Ten families have officially decided to call Powder River Prep their home for this inaugural year.
Our students have already jumped into big adventures—testing out rides in the PRP van for field trips, organizing our very own school spaces, and breaking in the playground.
We’re excited for a full month ahead of exploring, learning, and growing together!
